Alaska Construction Contractors Board
Alaska issues Contractor (CON) licenses in two primary tiers: a General Contractor license for projects over $10,000 and a Specialty Contractor license for specific trades including electrical, plumbing, mechanical/HVAC, and roofing when work exceeds $10,000. Electricians and plumbers must also hold separate journeyman or master-level trade licenses through the same board. Work valued at $10,000 or less may qualify for a Handyman exemption, but anything above that threshold requires full licensure. General Contractors must carry general liability insurance and, if employing workers, workers' compensation coverage. Specialty Contractor classifications are broken out by trade (e.g., electrical, plumbing, mechanical) and each requires proof of relevant experience or supervision by a licensed master tradesperson.
