Trade Contractor Resources for New Hampshire (Licensing, Permits, Tools)
Trade business resources for New Hampshire.
New Hampshire regulates trade contractors through the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC), which oversees licensing for electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and other skilled trades. Unlike many states, New Hampshire does not have a single statewide general contractor license requirement, though certain trades require individual journeyman and master licenses to perform work legally.

New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC)
New Hampshire requires licensed Master Electricians and Journeyman Electricians for electrical work, overseen by the OPLC Electricians' Board. Plumbers must hold a Master Plumber or Journeyman Plumber license issued through the OPLC Plumbers' Board. HVAC/mechanical contractors must be licensed under the OPLC as well, with separate licensure for refrigeration and pipefitting trades. There is no statewide general contractor (GC) license in New Hampshire; however, contractors performing work above $1,000 must register with the NH Secretary of State if operating as a business entity, and some municipalities impose additional local registration or permit requirements. Roofing contractors are not separately licensed at the state level but must comply with local building permits and, if operating as a business, maintain proper business registration. Workers' compensation insurance is required for any contractor with employees, and some project types may trigger bonding requirements at the local level.
